IC conflict situations are part of what makes LARP enjoyable for many people, but when they go wrong they can easily ruin someone’s weekend and are one of the most common reasons for players reaching out to the event team for support. These guidelines are not intended to replace that support, but offer some advice on ways to prevent IC conflict turning into OOC bad feeling in the first place. We ask that all players read the guidelines in full, but we’ll also draw your attention to an important new mechanic that we’re introducing here:

Check-in signal:

If someone hasn’t used the lay-off signal but you’re concerned about whether they’re feeling OOC uncomfortable, you can use the check-in signal to quickly check in with them without breaking the flow of the game. To do this, use the call “Check-in” and/or make eye contact with the other player and make a closed fist with your thumb extended sideways (as in, halfway between a thumbs up and thumbs down)

If someone uses this signal, respond either by giving a thumbs up” or using the “Bring it on” call to indicate you’re willing to continue, or using “Lay Off” call/signal or a thumbs down to indicate that you want them to reduce their intensity.

We’ve made some updates to our Code of Conduct: Aside from our official channels there are other online spaces devoted to Five Oaths (e.g. the Player Discord) where participants interact.
